A Look at the OCBLL’s Inaugural Draft

Clifford “Cliff” Kigar joined Haymakers Lacrosse in Columbus, Ohio, as a coach in 2015. A four-year player at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a former US Lacrosse All American, Cliff Kigar will participate in the 2019 Ohio College Box Lacrosse League (OCBLL) draft in June 2019. He played for the OCBLL’s Aviators team during its prior season.

The Ohio Collegiate Box Lacrosse League is one of the US Box Lacrosse Association’s (USBOXLA) college leagues and was established in 2018 alongside the National Collegiate Box Series. Its inaugural draft took place that June beginning with midfielder Landon Trout, the No. 1 overall pick fresh off a 12-goal and 4-assist freshman season at Bellarmine University. Trout received commendations for his offensive abilities from Resolute Lacrosse and was selected by the Aviators, one of the OCBLL’s four teams.

Over the course of a seven-win regular season in 2018, Trout’s teammate Cliff Kigar put in 10 goals and accounted for 15 total points. He was active on defense as well and recorded nearly 26 loose balls. Kigar’s performance saw an uptick in the 13-20 defeat to the Walleyes during the playoffs, despite the team’s perfect 3-0 regular season head-to-head record. He also scored four times and picked up four loose balls.
